Lmao, I don't like French either hehe. About plain dutch true, most belgians I encounter can speak in dialect and plain dutch or Vlaams (I'd say Vlaams is pretty close to dutch, if not spoken in regional dialect). The thing is that it can be quite tricky, you guys use the same words as we do but in a different context, more than once I encountered myself understanding something totally different from which was actually meant.
