Sometimes the message box notifications dont always work (well that was the case with my acc for ages) or sometimes people will have a couple of accounts and only log each one every so often. Someone could message someone else on one account but because that someone else has logged a different account, they may not know/ see that they have a message sitting on the other account, if that makes sense haha
