There are supposed to be some checks and balances in place to prevent that kind of mess from happening, but I wonder how much the American people will accept before kicking them in. President does something wrong? Impeach (possibility of being removed and replaced with VP)

President does something unconstitutional? Supreme court can overturn the decision (also leads to impeachment)

President still acts like an idiot? Congress can refuse to fund any programs sponsored by the president.
