Setting Resolution too high -> Blackscreen fix INSIDE!

With dual-clienting often comes the necessity of changing the resolution again to get rid of the annoying screen-squish. With the newly-added higher resolutions, gamers on older or mid-grade monitors may experience a problem of accidentally changing the resolution to something too high, and will experience a black screen.

If you're experiencing a black screen after an accidental resolution set which your monitor can't handle, follow the steps below:

As of 2/11/12 this is the ONLY way to fix this problem, so as a disclaimer, MAKE SURE YOUR ACCOUNT HAS LESS THAN FOUR CHARACTERS -OR- HAVE AT LEAST ONE CHARACTER THAT DOESN'T EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM.

    The steps are as follows:

1.) If you have three or less characters, create a new character. This character will not be affected by this problem as the default settings will be applied.
*If a character you have already created does not experience this black screen problem, then log into that character.

2.) Open the Options Menu (Hotkey 'O') and select the resolution dropdown.

3.) Select the lowest possible resolution that has window mode available. Select this resolution IN WINDOW MODE. Full-screen modes will prevent this fix from working!

4.) Wait for the resolution to re-adjust by waiting for 25 seconds or more in low settings and for the lag (if any) to settle down. The screen should flicker a few times.

5.) Switch characters by Alt+C. DO NOT LOG OUT WITH Alt+X.

6.) Select the blackscreen-affected character and Accept.

7.) Your character may experience severe lag upon first logging into the game. Wait out this lag until the game returns to running smoothly. Move the window with the cursor to the left and upwards so you can see more of your screen.

8.) Open the Options Menu (Hotkey 'O') and click to see where your mouse lands (it will be offset from the cursor). Click on the ground but restrain movement by presssing A/S/D/W as needed.

9.) Upon traveling back to within the Options Menu with your cursor, the mouse will work correctly and be properly aligned for one click. Click on the Resolution Dropdown Menu (confirm mouse placement by seeing if the dropdown button lights up).

10.) Repeat step 8. Now do a similar pattern from step 9 with the up arrow on the
Resolution Dropdown Menu so that it lights up when you're hovered over it.

11.) Carefully select the up arrow on the scroll bar of the Resolution Dropdown Menu and hold it down until you reach the top of the list with the lowest resolutions.

    12.) Repeat step 8.

14.) Reassure your mouse bearings in the Options Menu by locating the Resolution Dropdown Menu with your mouse, and then click on any of the resolutions available that your monitor can handle (you will be at the top of the list with the lowest resolutions still, so most if not all of these resolutions should work).

15.) Confirm your new resolution if it's acceptable on your monitor, and change the resolution again to your desired resolution. If you accept a resolution that is still too high or accidentally select one at the end, use Alt+F4 to exit the game as you will be black-screened, and repeat steps 1-14 as necessary for each affected character as necessary.

I'm currently trying to get this problem fixed ASAP so that nobody else will have to go through this tedious process and potentially be told by the GM's to change other settings or re-install the game repeatedly over support (which doesn't work btw). I'd also like to try and get an alternative solution made so that one may not have to delete characters in order to get their account back.
