Burying the body as soon as a person passes away is considered a sign of respect. When we bury the person, before the burial there is a prayer that is performed before the burial and then the person is buried.

When a person passes away, the family and the community get together seven days after, 40 days after, and one year after the one year anniversary. When we gather in these gatherings, we recite reciting prayers, we give to charity, we do good deeds on the behalf of the deceased.

im live at Toraja, Indonesia. my culture For Torajans, death is a gradual — and social — process. The bodies of people who have recently died are kept at home and preserved by their families, sometimes for years, until the family has enough money to pay for a funeral. The spirit of the dead is believed to linger in the world before the death ceremony is held. Toraja people believe the spirit of the dead lives among us, the living, looking out for us, blessing us.

As a Muslim we have a tradition which is to send prayers for the soul every year and also on big Muslim holidays we visit the graves of our loved ones who have died, clean their graves and read Surah Yasin and send prayers for spaciousness in the grave.

As an Indonesian, we pay a visit to the graves of our loved ones once a year. It's a pretty typical stuff. But as a Muslim, we say our prayer for them in each of our five daily prayers to ask God and His angels to take their souls to the better and more peaceful place. We also try our best to respect their last wishes, as we believe that by having all their wishes fulfilled, they may truly rest in peace.

the way to honor the people who have died in my place is to create an event that can entertain the bereaved family by dancing and singing folk songs together, remembering all the good things that have been done and the things that have been done together.

According to the beliefs of the people in the place where I live, we believe that every person who dies will be held accountable for all the deeds he has done in this world. Whether it's good or bad, everything will be rewarded later.

Therefore, when someone dies, we will all reminisce about all the good things that the deceased has done and apologize for all the deceased's mistakes during his life. With this, we hope that the deceased will receive forgiveness for his mistakes in the past and will be given peace in his resting place.

Being left by someone we love must make us really feel miserable. All the memories we have created and the time we spent together will definitely be hard to forget. However, every living person will definitely experience death, because that is the fate of life.

To honour the family member who have passed away, in my family, we always put up pictures of the deceased family members on a small altar decorated with flowers and lights. Because even though they have gone they will always live in our hearts.
Every night we also pray for them so they can rest in peace in the afterlife.

in my family tradition, if there is a younger sister who is getting married while her sister is not married, the younger sister must ask permission from the older sister, to bless the marriage if it is not done something bad will happen

There is an interesting celebration in a village not far from where my mother lives.
Once a year, they celebrate what is called Ancestor's Day. A celebration about giving thanks to the spirits for all the good things that had been bestowed upon the villagers. It is celebrated by offering prayers and blessings to their ancestors. They are skillful with craft work, their weaving skills are seen showcased in the neatly woven skirts, headbands and sashes worn during the celebration.
They offer prayers and blessings in honour of their ancestors. They will gather at the Spirit Hut commemorated for the spirit guardians. Offerings are sent to the spirits around the area.
The community then gathers at the hut for special prayers. Rice powder mixed with flowers and leaves, are used to mark the foreheads and forearms during rituals.

Obon is an annual Buddhist event for commemorating one's ancestors. It is believed that each year during obon, the ancestors' spirits return to this world in order to visit their relatives.

Traditionally, lanterns are hung in front of houses to guide the ancestors' spirits, obon dances are performed, graves are visited and food offerings are made at house altars and temples. At the end of Obon, floating lanterns are put into rivers, lakes and seas in order to guide the spirits back into their world.
