I prolly know more about pcs than he does, prolly why he had it made and didn't make his own. But well my brother knows at that stuff and how to build so guess its another job for him to do AFTER he finishes fixing my own pc that is lol.

    Good luck!

There are a lot better, cheaper and more reliable PSU's out there. If he has got money to spare, I'd reccomend to take a modular one. It's not "better" per se, but just handier.

okie cool tx. I read a few reviews on that model, seems they had pretty mix opinions. One said to say far away from this type so I guess there's been issues in the past maybe.

Those are def the PSUs that builders put in for people that don't know the insides of a 'puter but are impressed by brand names. They are not even rated on the 80+ efficiency scale which means they are hanging somewhere in the 7x% efficiency neighborhood. Even 80+ bronze rated psus will at least hit 81% efficiency converting wall current to DC current (the difference gets kicked out as heat).

Builders love those cause they can grab those up for about $60 USD (around $80 AUS) - even less wholesale. They are cheap and have a brand sticker on them to look impressive. I wouldn't expect to see much more than 3 years out of one of those.

Those are ok if all you are going to do with the system is surf the web of do some office stuff. Throw gaming at it and they just can't cope.

if all else fails .. turn off the power supply surge "detect" feature in the bios.
Just one thing, If I turn off the power supply surge "detect" thingy, whats likely to happen? I mean like when I try to play the game?

Such a shame they duped out on the PSU in this comp. Everything else works amazingly and when I am able to log in and stay in game for more than just a few moments it handles perfectly. I experience no lag whats so ever. That's something I've never had be4 and its beautiful being able to play this way lol

I've never seen one of those myself. But if it were an option I would leave it alone. Surges = bad!

Ok then there you go. It appears asus boards may have an issue with voltage droop when you have a dodgy power supply. While that unit your friend is using is of dubious quality it is still a somewhat modern one that has its own built-in surge protection.

Feel free to disable that setting. It will at least get the system stable until your friend can get a power system a little better quality.

    see this:

(this nitwit board won't let me give that a as real url)
