Sounds like an airflow and power supply problem. I would probably crack it open, take it ouside and clean it out with some compressed air. (stay around 4cm away from the motherboard and use short burst sprays instead of holding the nozzle down. Also hold any fans still when you spray them)

After you cleaned it you should take a look at 2 things:

1: Case fans (these are used to pull hot air out of the case)
2: Cable management (are there long cables just floating around? get some twist ties or some zip ties and shorten them up so they fit snug and follow a consistent path)

One thing you can do is unplug some things you dont need like a DVD drive for example and see if the problem persists. It might just be a power supply with some dead capacitors (dont try to fix that, you will just electrocute yourself) or the power supply is not rated to power everything inside the PC)

Doubt that u need more ram for Rohan lol, presume that u only have Rohan running and no other applications?

I use windows 8.1 with no problems so far.

CPU temperature does seem a little high - *maybe he skimped on the thermal paste and bought crap stuff, or the airflow in the pc might not be that great.....

..........However definitely sounds like the power supply is not man enough for the job. That should be the first thing that you check.

*edit* re-read what you wrote and you didn't say that your friend built it...........

It's a fairly new computer - no cleaning should be required, unless they house their cats in it.
Temperatures are more than fine, to the contrary- they are nowhere near actual temperatures of said CPU under heavy load. 29° for a MOBO is also quite cool.

If it's still the stock cooler, the temperatures are even better. If it's an aftermarket, it still depends on the type and brand - regardless, 43° is more than fine.
This is Ivy bridge, not Sandy.

The above temperature is probably also not reached when CPU cooler ran at 100%, but more likely at ~52-60% as is usual. Fan speeds go up, accordingly with CPU loads. It also depends heavily on mobo/cpu settings. One could prefer the fanspeed trigger bit higher up the temperature-tree when they prefer silence over cooling. If the CPU would run at 100% fanspeed, i'm sure they will know by the sound of it..

Overclocked, this CPU can handle temps well above 80-85°C, which is near double of the above btw..Although it's not recommended if you'd like to use it for a couple more years, in which case 65-70° is the range you should keep the treshold.

PSU voltage warnings you do not get by bad cable-management for airflow or by temperatures as mentioned above (which, under circumstances are near idle temperatures if: bad cablemanagement and stockcooler and normal roomtemperatures - these here may as well be: bad cablemanagement and stockcooler plus these are the temperatures after use).

However, none of this will give you the issue at hand. If anything, your CPU would fry and that's about it. Still a dead PC, but no voltage issues.

    - Either the person didn't spend much on the PSU (=> new PSU)
    - Either he did and got a faulty one (=> warranty / new)
    - Either he did any of the above but got too low wattage (=> new PSU)

The issue persisted before Aurora got the pc, so it could not be bad/old house-wiring, either. Unless, by odd chance, both houses are badly wired.

If anything, should be tested by a verified, working PSU with abundant wattage. .

If someone can buy a i7 - 3770K CPU - for 'gaming' (which is just a waste of money, btw) - they can also buy aftermarket coolers and good PSU's.

Its a problem with power fans or CPU overheat, try clean fans and change thermal silicon over CPU, check configuration for temperature protection in system BIOS.

    CPU Temp - +114.8 f / +46.0 c

    MB +84.2 f/ + 29.0 c

Im guessing the CPU temp is way to high? Keeping in mind that its winter here, its freezing cold in my house and this is the temp after the game crashes)

    CPU Voltage 0.968V

(Duno what these numbers below mean but they were on the bios screen along with the CPU voltage numbers)

    3.3V 3.312V
    5V 5.080V
    12V 11.232V
Of you got those from the bios screen I would say they are about normal for a stock system that has no enhanced cooling at idle. Bios temps will always seem a bit higher looking at it from the bios since the raw bios doesn't have have all the software cooling tricks that windows or linux uses in the bios. If that system was a high performance one with enhanced cooling I would say it was a little high for idle. You would need to run something to track the cooling operation during gameplay to get the reals story there (see below for something to help with that). System/MB temp is right on target.

voltages are fine for a computer at idle. Those may be sagging at load though so it is not easy to track that without logging it during gameplay.

Some tools I would recommend are:

CoreTemp ( http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp ) is useful for tracking temperatures during runtime. It will keep track of low, current and highest temperatures it has seen and let you log them (lets you go back after a crash to see how hoit youj were when the system died).

CPUz ( http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html ) doesn't have that lovely logging feature but it can tell all the dirty little sectets that youjr computer is hiding at a glance and snap it off to a file for later study.

HWiNFO ( http://www.hwinfo.com ) can log stuff as well - it should be able to watch your voltages for you.

About the temperatures. Yeah 46 degrees is not high in the grand scheme of things, but if Karren is ONLY running Rohan and nothing else then I would say its pretty high.
Either way, its gotta be the PSU thats causing the fault.

If its not then I will pay to have my lower ribs removed so I can suck myself off. I'll put the vid on Pornhub if anyone wants to watch it

I think I would agree with that (not the pornhub thing, the other)

It looks an awful lot like a saggy psu and i think that last tool i linked could verify that pretty quick.

This is what my idle temps look like with one instance of Rohan running. I use liquid cooling + dual 140mm fans radiator. A less capable system will be showing somewhat higher temps for sure. remember too that karren's temps were taken from the bios screen (her friend's pc crashes hard) so the temperature will be about 5c higher than you would see under Windows. Windows includes some software voodoo to allow a cpu to actually rest when it idles - raw bios screens don't do that.

Ill have to try those tools. I've used "Speccy" which is a pretty neat little tool for reading current temps easily, the new Asus Mobos are great though for checking temperatures and overclocking without even having to really do a lot of work.

yeah, i have the asus stuff installed too. I don't usually bother to overclock it these days tho. My power pig runs fast enuf to keep those porn vids running nice & smooth.

My friend didn't build the pc, he had it made for him from a computer store. And only thing I'm running on it atm is Rohan. Aside from that all I am using it for is youtube/ downloads and that's it. I play no other games on it and haven't installed anything else.

Ill pul it apart in the morning and have a looky.
