Need some input : Premium Weapons

I'm for a $10-15 monthly maintenance fee and an occassional extra influx of 60-80$'s for things like an upgraded weap.

I don't mind timed weapons, or any of that sort - but it's not worth it to me to spend more than '$15 maintenance cost per month on a 7y old game. Very much so since this is not the only game and those, too, require some money input here and there.
That $10-$15 is a given, it's a fixed cost/income (POV).

That $60-$80 I choose to either invest to buy another game or to buy something special like an upgraded weapon or new accessories or any of that kind.


Timed weapons? Sure, but they should be released simultaneously with upgraded sales (~$80) and the cost of these (timed weapons) should not exceed 2500 E-CASH

If you wanted the bang for your buck thats the $80 account bound weapon that is not going anywhere. How convenient in your math you forget the fail forge rate (have you tried post anus server forging?) and reinforcing where safe is +5 again.


I would gladly pay 80 bucks for a permanent glacial epic so long as it has 60% dd and I can move it between my chars internally.


The timed ones need a markdown on the longer durations tho old man. This way you encourage their intended purpose (low barrier of entry) while still enticing people to buy the permanent ones.

7 day: 1 dollar a day (7$)
30 day: 60 cents a day (18$)

As far as I can find in the dirty binary crap of the item option definitions give a 'lock to account' option. There is definitely a lock on equip, but nothing beyond that so passing them around within an account may not be an option that can be pulled off. Usually anything that can go into your treasury are things that can be traded (or sold).

How are the blue named eyes/ears defined? Maybe they could have the properties sunny is looking for in regard to account bound and able to be stored

Blue items are tradable on the EM tho. I dont remember the color but I think there is a non tradable item type that allows storage in treasury.

I can buy an entire game for 60 dollars with no pay to win...why would I want to pay 60 bucks for a temp pay to win item which really isn't going to mean jack if you have garbage accessories and armor anyhow. As far as spending 500-2000 for some pixels that may be rendered trash by the next update...nope, not gonna happen.

Some of the other games I've been playing for years...paid 60 bucks for one and a couple years later they came out with a 60 dollar expansion. No pay to win involved, just pay for cosmetics. Another one...free to download and play, they sell content and cosmetics. I probably charge about 30-50 bucks a year for the 5-6 years I've been playing it. It also comes with I think a 10 dollar a month subscription that unlocks everything...cool for newer people to try it out for a month, and quite a few veteran players sub just to support the game. Another one...free to download, pay for cosmetics and pay to get things faster...you can get all the best gear in game you'll just max enchant it quicker/less farming by spending.

Funny thing...the amount I've spent on these three games in the last 5 years and have gotten, and still get much enjoyment out of them, and none of them involve any pay to win crap, is still less than either of the two choices you have given me with how much you think people will reasonable spend just for gear on Rohan that may be turned second class the second they decide to sell some more powerful pay to win stuff. Oh yeah...and they all have active populations much larger than Rohan...go figure lol.

So fine then. IF you don't want to play the game, don't play the game. As you say there are 3 games that cost you less to play and you get pore enjoyment from. Have a ball.

This thread is not about how much cheaper other games are to play. That is common knowledge. It is not a philosophical discussion on whether players should help keep alive this aging game or if it should be allowed to die with dignity. Nor is it a discussion on whether or not upgrades should or should not be sold. All of that is completely beyond the scope of this discussion. This is a thread simply to provide input on what attributes premium weapons should have - if PWI accepts our proposal to create them. There are no commitments one way or the other on that last.

Everybody knows this game is unplayable at the top end without some form of premium weapon (whether a rental, permanently locked or something tradeable) in hand. As it stands today, upgrades will cost you upwards of $300 to acquire one (good luck finding a decent upgrade Katar for less than $300). PWI has already stated that they are not interested in putting out even more heavily overpriced upgrade weapons (I have already covered the reasons they are not interested in that route). So pricing is totally in the hands of players on the EM.

My goal here is to find a way to give newcomers in this game a chance to grow to the point where they can choose how much they want to pay (or not pay). As it stands now newcomers to this game are scared shitless when they find out the extreme cost of gaming here and go running. This proposal is not a cure, but it is a help. Any help that can can keep new players here is a help to keep this game alive.

Now, if you have something constructive to add to your posts, please feel free to do so. But if you do, please take the time to think them through seriously. If you can't handle that, I am sure those other enjoyable, cheap games are looking for you to troll.

Not sure how much the onyx tier premiums would help new players. Granted, some of them may go straight into EM/IM for chars and gear, but the average newbie will probably make a new character to try out the game. There are other problems they'll notice much sooner than the upgrades or lack of them.

I imagine so. I would hope that most new players would start from the bottom and work their way up (at least most of the way) before jumping into the mad end-game scene. The premium weapons I proposed won't help them too much during that period, but to be honest I don't think they really need heavy-hitting weapons before hitting lvl 115. PWI did for a short time offer permanent lowbie epics some time back. I actually have a sword and dagger on a human I built some time back. I personally really liked those since they could be used effectively from lvl 30 right on up to 7x. At the time they cost 1500 rps and were character bound, but I found them well worth the price since they gave much the same value as twins.

I may put a paragraph in the updated proposal to bring those back. They were really helpful imho.

My point in mentioning what people spend on other more populated games is just to show that you are suggesting going from this game being 20x overpriced to 19x overpriced and thinking it will attract new players. The same new guy that laughed his ass off and left when he found out how much it cost for an upgrade isn't going to spend 30 bucks on a temporary weapon(and still suck because he has junk armor/accessories) just to figure out if he likes the game enough to buy a permanent upgrade. Even if given a free temporary bound weapon at level 100 or something, most people simply aren't going to spend hundreds of dollars on a pixel weapon in an old game with a low population lol.

More reasonable suggestion to be quite honest...5 dollar permanent fully forged +15 upgrades. Let people get their weapons cheap...they'll still spend on armor and accessories and other temporary items in the item mall and game parlor. What's a better game...a dwindling population of morons who spent hundreds of dollars on an OP pixel weapon or make the biggest mistake ever of OP cash only weapons go away by selling them dirt cheap, maybe more people will stick around, and the people the want to pay to win will still have an advantage with better acessories, armors, and scrolls. In the end everyone competitive is going to have an upgrade anyhow, its not like making them cheaper is going to screw up end game "balance" at all...it would hopefully just get more people to stick around.

I wouldn't mind at all if they sold fully forged weapons for $5 or pieces for $1 each, and I have bought quite a few upgrades myself either in parts or forged; most of them traded or sold away by now though but I still have about 3 of them. Selling upgrades for less than you would pay for SES would be corporate seppuku.

@Gank - If they sell them at $5.00 each, you can bet they would put sockets in them and make them useless without spirit stones (Jainus meet Isen!). Isen is seen by Jainus to be so P2W that many feel it is far cheaper to play in Jainus.

At the end of the day, PWI has to make money out of whatever solution provided. They see a revenue stream for rental weapons or permanent ones that need to be purchased for each character. They do not see a revenue stream from expensive upgrades that cost almost as much as they make in support costs (increased tickets/manual processing for each upgrade). They won't see a revenue stream from weapons that are selling for $4-$5 each.

They want to gouge on every gear slot...they can't just be happy with people paying monthly for costumes and scrolls and dropping an occasional larger amount to forge/enhance things...so they just lose players. They've lost an army of players that would gladly be spending 10-20 bucks a month on costumes, ASES, and some scrolls who instead spend 0 because they don't want to invest ludicrous amounts of money in gear which may very well be rendered obsolete soon as they decide to have another upgrade sale and mod the stats again.

I'll just say it again...since its obviously hard for you to comprehend. Would it matter if upgrade revenue, which has been zero for months anyhow stayed in the gutter while revenue on every other item went up due to increased player base? I'm not spending a dime on a game where I have to continuously rent everything for a single alt for 50+ a month when some weeks I only have time to play 1 or 2 days yet all my timers are still ticking when I'm not even using the stuff, and I'm not spending hundreds or thousands of dollars to gear up when that kind of money could build literally go build a new PC if I wanted and buy a few new games. PW is literally stepping over a dollar to grab a dime and people can't figure it out lol.

I think people like PenguinJoe would get mad because he already over paid for garbage, so if someone behind him got a deal he'd rage initially, but then over time realize it was the right move as the player base grew.

Would it matter if upgrade revenue, which has been zero for months anyhow stayed in the gutter while revenue on every other item went up due to increased player base? There is one serious flaw inn your logic. That flaw is that this game is 8 years old (In N.A.). Any new game starts off with a huge population. Income is plentiful because of the honeymoon effect. The time to introduce cheap OP gear is while the population is high. YNK made the mistake of taking that too far with the (very) limited sales of epics and upgrades for huge money each. People got pissed off and left. A few of those people returned when upghrades v2.0 and v3.0 were released for about half the cost of the originals, but again, turned around and left because (1) again the sales were limited and (2) they were still too costly and (3) because they messed with the rates to the point where it simply costs too much to make them.

In short the population is lower than what you will find on most indo pservers.

The problem with selling full upgrades at $5 (forged) or $1/part is that there is not enough population left here to really make that a worthwhile venture. Even if 100 people bought them at $5.00 each, PWI makes what, $500 out of the whole thing. $500 would not support this server for a single month. $5000 wouldn't - and Jainus does not have 1000 players. And that $500 is a one off-sale to most players since nobody really needs to make a buttloads of upgrades when they are so cheap and can pass them between their characters.

I would not want to be the GM that approaches his executives with that business plan. GMs have been fired for less.

yup, don't you notice PWI lost all the players ? the playerbase is actually 1% of what it used to be. We're not forcing you into losing your players days after days xD

Yeah idk what kind of marketing strategy is to limit the offer of costumes in IM where they could be selling tons of them. They are permanent sure but they are character bound so no need to limit them. Would be making a lot of money selling those 24/7.

As a returner I can say this:
I got already bored of ROHAN again - after 2 months. They really should do some changes to keep people active.

1) Grinding
There's really no fun in leveling. Like no fun at all. Zero. Nothing. It's all about grinding on the same spot for months / years - I miss serious quests that are worth to be made. And DUNGEONS. Give me some exciting dungeons. With bosses with time limits, different mechanics and useful loot (armor parts and weapons with good stats).

2) Exp
Not enough that the leveling is boring - it feels like you're doing it for nothing anyway. The exp rate is below being bad. Means you're doing something boring for nearly no reward. That's not what I'd call attractive.

3) PVP
There also should be weekly / daily pvp dungeons. Like 6v6 / 3v3 etc. It would keep people busy as well and makes PVP possible in a fair environment.

4) Money
ROHAN is the most expensive game I've ever played. I don't mind to pay like 20-40$ a month to have fun on a good game. But the current situation is just really unbearable. Within that 2 months I've payed around 400$ - looking at that it's just WAY too much. I don't have upgrades even by now lol.

So yah, the bottom line is that they either do a lot of changes (which won't happen I suppose) or the game won't attract new players for sure. I was just a litte melancholiac and thought to retry it once - got badly disappointed though.

You have a point knuffl88. So this means that instead of having premium weapons, they should make some rate adjustments, "attractive" events, and some pocket-friendly items that will satisfy the people to the play ROHAN... am I right?

ya, exp is total BS, will take years to get +50... even with seals, 400% scrolls and sh1t, exp is still awful...
they should really do like other games, just look at Aion, I've played that game in the past and you can hit the last level kinda fast if you just play like a normal person does and the quests give significant exp... not like in here where you have to grind 24/7 during months just to get 5 levels and doing quests that give what? 0,5% or a pro 1%? lol...
idk, make a lot more quests with 10-20% at least or modify the exp rate in an extreme way lol...

already grinded a night long in Demonic Cave (mirror dungeon) where the exp is actually one of the best in Rohan, and with 3 400% solo scrolls and seals I got like 4%... like WTF? are you serious YNK?

Rohan has a LOT of issues. I am not trying to handle them all (after all I have to leave some topics for you guys to take up with the staff ;) ). Some fixes are easier than others. Some are pretty much impossible due to the lack of original game developers left in Korea or money left in the company to fund it. Anybody can feel free to create a thread of their own pet peeve with rohan and start a dialogue with one (or more) of the GMs on it.

OP cash shop gear, PvP events, experience levels and monthly maintenance costs are all problems that keep this game from becoming more popular in the gaming world (it may seem different to those "inside looking out", but Rohan is not a really popular game). A rating of 6.94 at MMORPG.com is a pretty mediocre score and puts it WAY below most of its competitors. So I am wide open to others in thesde forums to pick a pet problem and champion it with the staff.

Only way to make some things work is if we come to a complete agreement and suggest it to the gms. Wishing upon a star sounds more plausible which I know :)

Only way to make this work is to close down and fix it in rohan 2.
